Why We Dig Archaeology
Portraits from Ermine Street Community Dig 2018
This series of collaborative portraits came from the recognition that the community aspect of the project was as important the archaeology itself.
I wanted to record the variety of people, from all ages and backgrounds, drawn together by their shared love of the archaeology and history.
I asked everyone to write a short piece about their experience which was then edited to form the caption for each image. Their answers are as diverse as the people themselves.
The exhibition was the basis or the end of project celebration held at The Collection, Lincoln. It then went on tour for the next year in cafes, community libraries and universities around the county.
